New digital paper standards for tachographs will be introduced on 1 October 2011.

Since the introduction of digital tachographs, there has been calling on the EU to set a quality standard for the paper used to print out data from the vehicle unit, and now legislation will come into force 1 October 2011.

The new standard will mean that all digital paper rolls from 1 October 2011will have to meet a number of key criteria, i.e. heat resistance, low temperature resistance and light resistance etc. This is to ensure the printouts shall remain clearly legible and identifiable under normal conditions of storage, for at least one year.
